Before You Apply
Research your options
thoroughly. This is a big decision
and we want to make sure that you feel comfortable about your choice of

Plan Ahead
Consider the amount of time and money required, how much
traveling time is required and design a budget. In addition to
tuition fees, books, and shiatsu kit, you should budget money for
housing and meals, health, transportation and miscellaneous expenses.
Explore possibilities for financial assistance from a
number of sources. Some people make loan arrangements with family,
banks, trust companies, credit unions and caisses populaires. For
example, most of Canada's major banks offer a student credit line.
Toronto has a high employment rate, and it is definitely possible for
students to both work, and attend school. We recommend that full
time students work part time, if they wish, but no more than 1 evening
per week and 1 weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) a week.
As well, the SSC offers a reasonable and affordable payment
plan.

Financial Assistance
There are a number of avenues open to the
resourceful student seeking financial assistance. While the
SSC does not offer any scholarships, bursaries or grants, we work with
students to identify all possible sources of student assistance.
Many organizations, corporations, or
governmental programs have scholarships, bursaries, and grants available
to post secondary students. Check with
your employer or your parents' employers to see if they have any
scholarships or bursaries available. Student loans may be available
from banks, credit union, and other financial institutions. As
well, most students supplement their borrowing with prior savings and
earnings from summer employment.
Many SSC students have substantial
employment histories and job skills and, thus, are able to obtain
part-time jobs that cover much of their living expenses. In
addition, many students reduce costs by sharing housing. Family resources
should not be overlooked.
The Shiatsu School of Canada is always
willing to inform students about possible aid sources and to answer questions
Students who want to apply for government-assisted financing of any sort
are encouraged to make an appointment with SSC staff too ensure that
their funding application is processed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Students enrolled in the Shiatsu Therapy
Diploma program may be eligible, if qualified, for assistance under one
or more of the following components of the Ontario Student Assistance Program
(OSAP):
w
The Canada Student Loans Program (CSL)
w
The Ontario Student Loans Plan (OSL)
OSAP application forms are available from
the school or from the Ministry of Education in mid-April. Apply
early for prompt processing. You may also wish to check out the OSAP website for
more information at:

Since many of SSC's students and
graduates benefit from government loans, grants, and bursaries, the SSC
strongly reminds everyone that they have a responsibility to repay their
loans and meet their commitments. The viability of loan programs
in many provinces, states, and countries rests upon the appreciation
that everyone gains when financial commitments are honoured.
