Tuina Fundamentals: The theory, technique and exploration of specific conditions using this TCM form of massage

Tuina is a modality of traditional Chinese medicine that uses the arms, hands, fingers, knees and elbows for the treatment of illness and disease as well as to maintain and promote health. In a tuina treatment, the therapist manipulates the body stimulating acupuncture points to correct physiological imbalances and regulated the body’s energy or qi.

Tuina is useful in treating soft tissue injuries, blood circulation issues, rheumatic pain, fatigue, and any symptoms caused by stress or emotional problems.

This 80 hour introductory course to tuina massage will give therapists of any modality an additional treatment tool that they can easily incorporate into their practice. The course will be divided into two parts. The first part of the course will teach the rational and proper techinique of tuina massage including Qi-gong. Students will become proficient in these techniques through in-class practical work and small homework assignments.

The second portion of the course will introduce a number of common conditions that clients present. Each condition will be introduced and the protocol and sequence of technique will be demonstrated, taught and then practiced in a hands-on environment.

  • tendonitis of supraspinatus muscle
  • chronic neck pain (cervical spondylopathy)

  • syndrome of perfomis muscle injury
  • other conditions
About the instructor:   Ronny Breuer MSc., Lic. Acu is an instructor in both the shiatsu and acupuncture programs at the Shiatsu School of Canada Inc. and SSC Acupuncture Institute as well as a therapist at the Professional Clinic at 547 College. Ronny’s fields of expertise cover acupuncture, medicinal herbs, nutrition, shiatsu and tuina. He studied shiatsu for two years in Israel and is a graduate of a 4-year comprehensive program of study in traditional Chinese medicine.

Students in both the school’s shiatsu and acupuncture diploma programs have benefited from Ronny’s experience in his other role as an instructor of Foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (formerly Eastern Medical Theory), Business, Communications, Acupuncture Technique, Treatment of Disease and Oriental Medical Diagnosis. Ronny also teaches workshops on pulse diagnosis and Eastern nutrition.

Prerequisite: Trained and/or practicing an Eastern or holistic therapy with an understanding of TCM theory and the meridian system. OR Completion of the 60 hour TCM Basics course offered at the Shiatsu School of Canada. Please call if you are unsure.

Cost: $399.00 (plus gst)

Course Dates: Monday and Wednesday afternoons ( 1-4pm ) from January 8, 2007 to May 7th, 2007 with two 2 week breaks.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations on or before December 15, 2006 will result in a $35 cancellation fee. Cancellations after December 15, 2006 will not receive a refund.
