TCM Basics: Exploring the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and the meridian system

Learn the theory of traditional Chinese medicine – a discipline that includes acupuncture, medicinal herbs and tuina massage. This 50 hour course will explore the concepts and physiology of Qi (a central theme in Chinese medical theory); blood and body fluids; shen and Mingmen; yin and yang; five elements and the 8 principles – especially heat-cold and deficiency-excess. Students will also receive practical instruction as they are introduced to basic concepts of the complex network of meridians and collaterals. These systems integrate the body’s energy into a unified organism. Students will also learn how to locate pressure points as well as the functions and disharmonies of organs.

As a general interest course or as a foundation for further studies in acupuncture, medicinal herbs or tuina, this course bridges the gap between Western medicine and Eastern medical theory.
