Shiatsu School of Canada

About the School

The Shiatsu School of Canada Inc. was established on April 2, 1986 by Kaz and Yasuko Kamiya. The school is registered and approved as a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act. The school has been teaching a 2-year, 2200-hour Shiatsu Therapy Diploma program since 1986. The SSC Acupuncture Institute program began in 1996 and is now a 1600 hour diploma program with an optional 300 hour advanced clinical practicum (1900 hours total).  This was designed to meet the same standards as in British Columbia and the United States.

Acupuncture Program

This 1900-hour program starts April 2006. Classes are held every Monday and  Thursday evening 6-10 p.m. and  Sundays 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.  Courses include Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM),  Jing-luo System, The Treatment of Disease, Differential Diagnosis,  Acupuncture Points, Oriental Medicine Diagnosis, Auricular Acupuncture, External Techniques, Clean Needle Technique and Needling, Acupuncture Technique, Ethics, Practice Management and Communication Skills, Biomedical Pharmacology, Research Modalities, Japanese  Acupuncture and  Clinical Practicum.

Please note that the Acupuncture program is not a registered program under the Private Career College Act and therefore not eligible for government financial assistance.
